That's What She Says/He Says!
With
the Halifax premier of ‘Broadway Without Borders’ at Neptune Studio Theatre just
a little over a week away, Stuart Hiseler and Karen Myatt open the books on
their personal and professional relationship!
KM: Our working relationship really blossomed from a strong friendship that began about 6 years ago. Stuart and I had so much in common on stage and off that it only made sense to jump into a professional relationship as well.
KM: Many people have commented on our on stage chemistry....and it really is just an extension of our real life chemistry. We've written so much of the banter you hear in our shows while sitting in a coffee shop conversing. Most of our dialogue is pulled directly from our natural conversation..which may give it that extra edge and truth. And we're hilarious.
What is the other's greatest strength on stage?
SH: Versatility. Karen can sing any style brilliantly; assume characters at the drop of a hat. A mesmerizing talent as a singer and an actress.
KM: Stuart has so many strengths. But I'd have to say his....physique. No no...well the man is built beautifully, but his physicality within these songs...so many styles and characters is impeccable, so versatile, and beautiful to watch. There's no one like him.
KM: Ha. When we were performing in Montreal at Theatre Ste-Catherine this past February, Stuart tried his hand at the French language...I'm pretty sure the phrase "ne fromage pas" actually came out of his mouth.
KM: Stuart sews his own sequined panties for every show. He's become quite the seamstress.
KM: Me.
KM: Me.
Who's the better dancer?
SH: In a club Karen, but in the studio probably me.
KM: Stu....no me.
Who is the better dresser?
SH: I’m colour blind, hate shopping and generally wear jeans and t-shirts so I guess Karen takes that one…even without pants.
KM: Well...the sequined panties.
KM: Scott Taylor.
How would you describe
your relationship?
SH: Creative, respectful and loving. We’ve been friends for a long time but
especially this last year has been tumultuous both in our personal lives which
translates directly to our stage life and brought us even closer.KM: Our working relationship really blossomed from a strong friendship that began about 6 years ago. Stuart and I had so much in common on stage and off that it only made sense to jump into a professional relationship as well.
How might you explain
the great chemistry between you in performance?
SH: Working so closely together, we feed directly off each other. Sometimes
it feels very naked up there so I rely on our relationship as the fundamental
aspect. If we’re connected all is well.KM: Many people have commented on our on stage chemistry....and it really is just an extension of our real life chemistry. What was the other's
most embarrassing moment on stage?
SH: I’m pretty sure the “nipple slip” would be the one.KM: Ha. When we were performing in Montreal at Theatre Ste-Catherine this past February, Stuart tried his hand at the French language...I'm pretty sure the phrase "ne fromage pas" actually came out of his mouth.
